2020 is here! I am thankful to my experiences in 2019, and excited to see what 2020 has to offer me. Like a lot of people, I have personal resolutions to keep to. To try and constantly improve myself as a person and to make the most of opportunities that are brought my way.
In 2019, the World Health Organisation revealed that 2020 will be the International Year of the Nurse and Midwife! As a student that is still at the beginning of my nursing career, I am so excited for this! 2020 is also the year I shall be heading into my final year of training, which is scary but exciting at the same time.
I think with everything that is going on with the world (climate change, poverty, and the dreaded Brexit word for the UK) it’s important that as valued healthcare professionals we use our voice to promote positive change.
Nursing is seen as one of the most trusted professions, which I believe is key in making change. Even if you feel that “I can’t do that, I am a just a student” every voice and action counts! Even if it’s being mindful when using disposable equipment, making a change of ways of commuting, or even reading up about changes in policies, and educating yourself about changes that might happen in the future (particularly in the UK right now).
For 2020, I want to embrace the Year of Nurse and Midwife. I want to show everyone how proud I am of this profession, and show that even as a student you can make a difference to someone’s life. I want to surround myself with like-minded passionate people, build my connections and learn about the type of nurse I want to be.
